The yellow brick roadmovie8/5/2023 Frank Baum’s 1900 novel, The Wonderful Wizard of Oz. Located 5,506 feet above the town of Banner Elk, North Carolina, sits Land of Oz, a once-abandoned theme park based on L. But you don’t have to fly like a bluebird or get carried by a twister to land above the chimney tops-just follow the winding, double-yellow-lined road to the top of Beech Mountain. This movie DVD shows how everyone involved with the writing, playing, singing, producing, marketing for this album made it all work.Somewhere over the North Carolina Blue Ridge Mountains, way up high, is a place where troubles melt away like lemon drops. It offers an inside look at a moment in time that cultivated one of the greatest rock albums of all time. Ive waited for years for this film to come out. However, if youre interested in the creative process, comments from Elton and his bandmates, archival footage of Elton John in his prime, this is a must for Elton John fans. If youre looking for music, this is not what you want. It was filmed primarily in 1972 while Elton and the band were recording "Goodbye Yellow Brick Road". This DVD was originally a movie called "Elton John and Bernie Taupin say Goodbye to Norma Jean and other things". Not one song is played without interuption. While the songs are played, all are interepted by interviews. This DVD is a documentary about the making of the music album. This is not at all what I expected when I ordered this DVD.ĭont buy this DVD if you are wanting to hear the music. I wouldnt consider this a music DVD - not a single complete song is played - they are all broken up by interviews and commentary. engineering and writing musicians will relate better to whats going on and will derive more enjoyment out of it, but thats not to say that the average guy wont enjoy it immensely. If you arent a Yellow Brick Road fan, youll not like this and as the emphasis is heavily on the musical aspects of the album i.e. Though I wish more songs were covered on the film, this is still a great piece and youre not likely to find one better on Elton John. Great archival footage from 73 at the chateau in France where they recorded. Elton and Bernie talk about how they wrote the songs and the recording process. The sound engineers sit at the mixing board and isolate tracks on the multitrack masters. Truly a musicians dream, everyone associated with the recording of the album is interviewed. I own three in the series and have been blown away by all of them. The "Classic Albums" series is by far the best documentary series available on DVD. I have several DVDs in the Classic Albums series and this one on the DVD on Dark Side of the Moon are absolutely the best! If youre a guitar player Davey Johnstone also shows you how certain guitar parts are played. Loads of interviews with Elton John the band and others. Also contains analysis of the multitrack for selected tracks on the album by the albums producer, Gus Dugdeon. This is a great DVD with loads of archival footage from the recording sessions for Goodbye Yellowbrick Road as well as Elton Johns career leading up to that album. Skyrim dark envoy armor8/5/2023 During the Skyrim Civil War, the Thalmor have a tangible presence in cities in which the Empire has the most secure foothold. These are the Justiciars, and it is their job to enforce the Talos ban of the White-Gold Concordat. In fact, there is one group in particular that operates secretly, in the shadows - watching and waiting for those Nords who break the law, and continue their worship of Talos. Not all Thalmor in Skyrim are equal in station, or purpose. The Justiciars were sent to Skyrim to enforce the White-Gold Concordat and make sure that the Empire doesn't break it again. After the signing of the White-Gold Concordat, they've been authorized by the Empire to maintain an embassy in Skyrim, and have been known to secretly capture and imprison any Nords who question their doctrines or beliefs. Being connected provides access to powerful new applications (“apps” for short). Where there is no access to the Internet, we can establish an Internet bubble over incidents using a variety of airborne platforms (the military has a number of these) or through “mesh networks” where the fleet of responding vehicles dispatched to an incident automatically establishes ad hoc networks that reconfigure themselves automatically as the vehicles move about the incident battlefield. We can find high-bandwidth network portals in every community (even in our living rooms and favorite coffee shops!) as well as in some of the more remote areas of our regions. How will they influence ICS-Next Generation? military and have found their way into military C2. Advances in these three areas have been driven, in large part, by research and development in the U.S. It allows us to think about new levels of commander collaboration and subsequent command and control decision-making activities that were impossible before.Īlthough there are many ways to look at this explosion in technologies, one way is to examine three major technology themes that are influencing ICS: networking, instrumentation, and command and control. While the technology base of the 1970s supported “static” concepts relying mainly on paper and voice-over-radio for information transmission and exchange, the explosion in today’s information and communications technologies, which have found their way into just about every aspect of our daily lives, allows us to think about command and control of incidents as dynamic, streaming events (constant real-time information flow) enabled by computer-based technology. What has changed during the past 40 years? Why should we consider changing a system that has been used on thousands of multi-risk incidents? The answer is one single word: technology. Because of the way these plans are developed and disseminated (i.e., “physically published”), they are victims of the tyranny of distance and time, and do not and have never been able to provide actionable information in a timely manner during a fast-moving dynamic incident. It uses lengthy planning meetings and briefings to produce paper-based Incident Action Plans (IAPs). The lead fire agencies (federal, state and local) combined with private industry and supported by public and political entities formed FIRESCOPE (see This organization developed a standardized system of command and control (C2) that was named the Incident Command System (ICS) and that we know today at the national level as the National Incident Management System (NIMS see The current ICS delivery model, drawn from the technology base of the 1970s, is time specific and relies on voice-over-radio. Hundreds of thousands of acres burned, thousands of homes were destroyed and many people died, both civilians and firefighters. The fall 1970 fire siege driven by extremely dry and relentless Santa Ana winds lasted 13 days. In this case, the disaster was the worst series of fires on record in California at the time. The Incident Command System, as we know it today, started as most emergency management systems do: by necessity caused by a major disaster. Our purpose is to contribute to the dialogue about ICS-Next Generation and provide updates on projects underway that may impact this discussion.īut what is ICS-Next Generation? To understand what it is and what it has the potential to be, we must first visit the history of “ICS-Original” or just plain ICS. This article explores the benefits and challenges of migrating the Incident Command System (ICS) to its next level given remarkable advances in enabling technologies, a changing threat, the importance of thinking about response as all risk (multi-cause/multi-agency/multi-organization) and new concepts of operation (CONOPS). Okay – to get started moving your website go to your locally installed WordPress dashboard and scroll down to Tools. If you do have old content you can always use our guide to reset your WordPress website so you have a clean installation to work with. This is very important as the WordPress import feature will not override existing content, it will simply add to it. This method assumes that WordPress is already installed and setup on your live hosting account and that there is no content on your live website. Method 1: Export & Import Content Using Core WordPress FeaturesĪ quick and easy way to move a WordPress site from local server to a production environment is by using the built-in export tool in WordPress. Alternatively, you can use the File Manager option in cPanel but unlike SFTP, cPanel doesn’t provide a view of your local directory structure. Okay, with all of that in place, we should be ready to go. You’ll be using it to upload the files to your host. SFTP AccessĪnd finally, you should have SFTP access to your hosting account along with a client program such as FileZilla. If you’re not ready for that price tag, you can find a great starter shared hosting plan for around $3 per month from companies such as Bluehost or SiteGround. Plans start at $29 per month for one installation (but you can get 2 months free on annual plans when you use our link). Plus, WP Engine makes managing your sites easy thanks to their intuitive admin panel. We of course recommend WP Engine managed WordPress hosting – it’s how we power all of our websites and live theme demos. Better yet, many providers offer one-click install scripts for WordPress so you don’t have to go through the manual setup. Fortunately, most hosting providers support PHP and MySQL. You’ll also need an active hosting plan that offers PHP and MySQL support. To learn more about setting up your own localhost environment checkout our guides on how to install WordPress locally, or checkout Local by Flywheel. You should have a WordPress website running on your computer. These are just a few simple requirements that you’ll need before you can get started. In this tutorial, I’ll assume that you already have met a few prerequisites. This process allows you to safely move all of your site’s content (images, posts, and pages) as well as themes and plugins from a directory on your computer to your host’s production server. Obviously, there are a couple of handy plugins that can make this process a breeze, but it’s always advantageous to learn the manual process. In this post, I’ll be going through the process of moving a WordPress website from a local server to a live server. Similarly, future updates to the website are done and tested locally before being uploaded to the live environment. Since every edit requires saving and refreshing, developing a WordPress site on a live server can easily turn into a nightmare given the limitations of bandwidth and Internet traffic.įor this reason, most developers rightly choose to do all the nitty-gritty of WordPress development on a local server and later upload the finished website to the live server. And your first move – your domain – is easily your most powerful.A virtual web server installed on your computer (or local server) allows you to build and customize a WordPress website with ease and speed. Once you’ve selected the right domain name and TLD, an even more important decision awaits – just how are you planning to host that site? Domains and Web HostingĪt times the internet can make us all feel like we’re learning a new language, and just like the subtleties of our own native languages, tiny moments online can make a substantial difference in what you’re presenting to your readers.Įvery movement online with your website should and must be deliberate. Those websites must be hosted to even make it online to reach a viewer. Websites are more than just domain names and acronyms. If you don’t know or understand the Top Level Domains, or TLD, of your own website, how are you supposed to be sure that visitors – customers – know what sort of website you’re running? What type of website is this? Is it trustworthy? Is this a reputable source for the information I’m seeking? There is a science to the construction of every URL and every bit of your website’s domain name is sending a message to your visitors. Selecting the perfect domain name isn’t as simple as brainstorming cool words and ideas. That means the domain name you choose shouldn’t just be a good one – it should be a perfect. Japanese totemo8/4/2023 Kanari can also be used with nouns if you glue them together with the ‘ no‘ particle, although you should note that using it that way comes off as kanari casual. The only catch is you have to make the Japanese “ r” sound to say it, which can be a little tricky for beginners.Īnd actually this word is a little more flexible than totemo. It’s meaning and usage is exactly the same as totemo so you can start using it like a pro right away, there are no hidden nuance traps waiting to bite your leg off and your Japanese will instantly sound much more confident and natural. Kanari is a fabulous word, I can’t recommend it enough. So to help Japanese learners cure their addiction to this intoxicatingly easy word, I’ve collected 7 alternatives to help you lay off the totemo juice and expand your linguistic horizons. Of these words, totemo is easily one of the most overused. While heavy reliance on a select few power-words may be sufficient for travelers, for anyone who wants to understand everyday Japanese as it is spoken by native speakers, or perhaps someday even sound intelligent speaking Japanese, these words can be almost like an invisible barrier to more advanced vocabulary. “Power-words” like totemo great for speed-learning, and non-Japanese pick up on these words with unparalleled ease… However, all too often those learners end up clinging to these words to a far greater degree than they should and for a much longer time than they should. Because it is so easy to pronounce, so broad in meaning and so simple in grammar, it is one of the most useful words in the Japanese language. Totemo means “ very” in Japanese, also sometimes pronounced とっても/ tottemo with a kicked “t” for added emphasis. Scaffold meaning in teaching8/4/2023 The ZPD identifies the level of independency in the learner – more specifically, it identifies gaps in learning and skills. As the educator delivers new content to the student, they must be aware of each student's location within the ZPD Instructional scaffolding supports student learning and growth by shifting cognitive engagement from the teacher to the student (Fisher & Frey, 2007). This means current classrooms should make available ample opportunities to practice these skills so that students are fully equipped with leadership capabilities that align with workplace requirements for interdependency. This work requires individuals to develop into highly interactive, solution-oriented, and effective communicators and contributors, resulting in effective process thinking. Enabling students to become problem solversĪs students transition from receiving direct instruction from the teacher, towards independent problem solving and networking with other classmates, the need for instructional scaffolding is essential if students are to acquire skills that will help them lead their own learning. This ignites a student's motivation to know more about the content and, as a result, pushes forward the learner's effort to work beyond their current skill level. The activation process of the ZPD is initiated when content is taught just outside of the student's current skill and knowledge level. Vygotsky committed to his belief that instructional scaffolding and application of these scaffolds at the ZPD allowed for any child to successfully learn in any area. This support mechanism – ZPD – is the difference between what a learner can do independently and what a learner can complete with adult support or scaffolding practices. Rather, learning is a social process, guided by interactions with classmates and others involved in the lesson.Ī second layer to instructional scaffolding exists with Vygotsky's conceptual thoughts about supporting independency. Vygotsky believed that learning does not occur in isolation. He defined this as, ‘the role of teachers and others in supporting the learner's development and providing support structures to get to that next stage or level' (Raymond, 2000). Vygotsky coined a definition of instructional scaffolding that focused on teacher practices. Specifically, his sociocultural theory asserts that cognition is developed through social interaction. Instructional scaffolding as a strategy for supporting learners begins with Lev Vygotsky's sociocultural theory and his learning concept of the Zone of Proximal Development (ZPD). We also provide a practical framework for cultivating student independency and interdependency in the learning process. In this article, we uncover the answers to these questions and explore, through an instructional scaffolding model, the importance of developing students' responsibility for their learning. These questions highlight the critical elements of instructional scaffolding in the classroom. In any given lesson, when do teachers shift from being ‘information providers' to becoming facilitators of learning with their students? Do teachers know when to interrupt student thinking and provide the appropriate scaffolds? And, how can educators transition students from being teacher reliant, to independent and interdependent learners in the classroom? Import recording into fuzzmeasure8/4/2023 When I equalised the anechoic snare to try and replicate the sound of snare 4, I increased the decibels of the high’s greatly because the drum booth reflected a lot of snare 4’s highs.I apologise ahead, as I am not the most concise of writers. 250Hz to 800Hz were highly reverbrative as well so I increased the reverberation of these frequencies in Pro Tools. The EDT of the drum booth also had a high reverberation of low end frequencies, again an unreliable result. The other high reverberating frequencies were 5Hz to 2KHz so I made sure to replicate that in my anechoic reverb. By observing the EDT graph I found that frequencies bellow 50 Hz reverberated for the longest time however, this is a result that cannot be trusted because low frequency bandwidths have a smaller resolution for the microphone to record. I did so in this order so I could equalise both the dry anechoic sound of the snare and the post reverb sound simultaneously. I applied a seven band equaliser, reverb, and another seven band equaliser. I increased the decibels of the frequencies around 250Hz to make my anechoic snare sound more like snare 5. I could tell this by listening to each snare. I thought snare five was recorded in the empty room because the empty room is the biggest room and snare 5 had the most natural reverb. This helped me figure out what changes I needed make by comparing it snare 5’s plot spectrogram. I imported the anechoic snare we were given into audacity and took a plot spectrogram analysis of the waveform. Recreating the Acoustic Sounds of the Two Rooms The improvements I would recommend would be to put more sponge’y materials on the walls of the drum booth so the problem frequencies become non existent. From these results I now know that the frequencies around 400Hz, 35Hz, and 5KHz need to be equalised so they are far quieter in order to make a excellent recording in the drum booth. The reverberation in the room was very uneven and it matched the waterfall results perfectly. The waterfall results of this room were quite specific, frequencies form 300Hz to 500Hz took 440 milliseconds to decay, 30Hz to 70Hz took 350 milliseconds to decay and 1KHz to 10KHz took 300 milliseconds. The axial modes of the room were 47Hz, 94Hz, 141Hz, 188Hz and so on. Its a triangular room with sponge pads to absorb frequency reverberations so it has quite good acoustics. The drum booth had a height of 2.47 meters a width of 3.62 meters and a length of 3.64 meters. I would alter the shape of the room (so it was less square) to reduce the problem frequencies caused by the rooms axial modes. This is to absorb some of the vocal sound and reduce the natural reverberation in the room. To improve a vocal recording in this room I would put some materials on the walls and floor that have a high absorption co-effcient. This tells me that lower frequencies reverberate more in this room due to its low absorption co-efficient. Frequencies from 100Hz to 3KHz took 700 milliseconds to decay by 60 decibels. I worked out the T60 of the empty room by analysing the waterfall graph, frequencies around 40 and 50 Hz took 950 milliseconds to decay by 60 decibels however. The harmonic modes that occur more than once within the height, width and length of the room are the exact problem frequency’s that would need to be equalised out of a recording in the room.Ī rooms Sabine T60 is how long it takes for frequencies to drop by 60 decibels in a given space. Working out the multiplying these frequencies tells me the harmonic modes of the room, for example 28Hz, 56Hz, 84Hz, 112Hz etc. Height – 28Hz, Width – 29Hz, Length – 29Hz. Dividing the speed of sound (344 meters per second) by these wavelengths tells me the exact problem frequencies of the room. Height – 12.16 meters, Width – 11.84 meters, Length – 11.92 meters. Doubling these measurements tells me the exact wavelength that fits into this space. The measurements are as follows, Height – 6.08 meters, Width – 5.92 meters, Length – 5.96 meters. To work out the axial modes of the room I measured it to find the problem frequencies that get eradicated or amplified due to phasing in certain places. The room is fairly square which makes the acoustics sound bad due to it’s axial modes. I learned this form the EDT and waterfall results. The walls and floor were concrete which has a low absolution co-efficient meaning that its very acoustically reflective. The estimated decay time analyses told me that there was a lot of natural reverberation in the empty room, this is because its quite a large room with not a lot inside it. Fuzz Measure play’s the entire frequency bandwidth of human hearing and record’s the resulting reverberations in the room. I used the software called Fuzz Measure to analyses the acoustic properties of the empty room and the drum booth. I assessed the acoustic characteristics of two rooms within the music department.
